![]() ![]() ![]() Another short lived series appeared in 2004. His next appearance was in the pages of Mark Waid’s JLA though this is generally regarded as not a part of continuity, as the depiction here ignored some vital parts of the character’s history. Building on this appearance Adam Strange would soon after appear in his own miniseries. The character in this case was given some more depth as questions pertaining to him were answered (involving such topics as his relationship with Alanna, Rannian technology, and Rannian society.) After a nuclear war Swamp Thing helped the planet to be remade (by terraforming it) but the inhabitants, including Adam Strange were left to decide how to proceed with their future. The next major appearances of Adam Strange were in the pages of the Swamp Thing after the writer ( Alan Moore) decided to set the title character’s stories in space. At the end of such an issue he would routinely be returned to Earth (although the Zeta beam would later be modified so that Adam could stay on Rann.)įollowing the cancellation of Mystery in Space, Adam began to show up periodically in various publications, most notably in Hawkman and the Justice League of America, with whom he was made an honorary member. These stories typically started with Adam Strange on Earth from where he would be transported to Rann by the Zeta Beam and where he would usually be met by Alanna who informed him of some planetary threat. Major Story ArcsĪdam Strange’s early stories were mostly one shots, in that there was little continuity from one story to the next as each story was self contained in an issue. Adam also has two pets, Stranger and Strangest. Some time later in an attempt to make him appear more mature, his daughter Aleea was introduced to continuity. As a guest character he is most commonly seen with either Hawkman, Swamp Thing or the Justice League of America. In addition although his character development was mostly ignored afterwards as he was mostly assigned a guest role in comic book titles, he became to be regarded as an experienced and trustworthy hero. Even so he did experience some development in that he came to be more attracted to Alanna and the two eventually married. The majority of the time which he spent headlining his own series was in the 1960s where continuity in character development was not a staple of writing form. Only occasionally headlining his own series, Adam Strange has more often been reduced to that of a secondary or supporting character in the history of the DC universe. Adam Strange came to be featured in the series Mystery in Space, where he gained the greatest deal of his popularity. After his introduction he was mostly ignored until later in the 1960s when DC decided to launch on a new direction in its titles focusing more on science fiction than on fantasy or mystical elements. Adam Strange was introduced in issue 17 and featured in a story that ran through until issue 19. This featured such additions as the creation of the silver age Flash ( Barry Allen). CreationĪdam Strange was introduced in Showcase, a comic book series from the 1950s and 1960s which served the purpose of introducing a character to see if they might be a popular addition to the DC lineup. It was also through Sardath that Adam would meet his future romantic interest, Alanna. It was also revealed that the effects of the beam were temporary and that Adam would eventually be sent back. It is revealed that a Rannian scientist by the name of Sardath had created the Zeta Beam as a means of communicating with Earth but had accidentally created a teleportation machine instead. He is teleported from Earth to the planet Rann by the Zeta Beam where he discovers the iconic helmet and red suit and which he uses to pursue a superhero career on this planet. But the DC Universe is the one we're familiar with - the Orrery of Worlds, as we've called it - and it's floating in this source with multiple multiverses. The character follows an established pattern of men from the planet Earth who are summoned to the cosmos. I figure it gives us a scope that every comics universe exists somewhere in there. These bubbles, there's so many of them out there that there's the Marvel multiverse and there's the DC multiverse and over there's the Archie multiverse. ![]() I suggested to Dan if you imagine like a champagne glass and you picture all these bubbles rising and giving form to each other, that's what the real multiverse looks like. ![]() ![]() ![]() I feel a bit disappointed in writing this review, because I do have a lot of nice things to share, however, I felt like I was treated disrespectfully by my server. The tables are incredibly small and we were just crammed inside this small space. So, my friends arrive shortly after and turns out that despite having a reservation, the table was not ready. The hosted pointed out that they were already seated, just to be roaming around the restaurant and the party was not even there. When I arrived, I said I was here for my friend's party. My friend had made a reservation for ten people at 9:00PM. The hostesses in the front of the restaurant were very nice, however, not organized. The inside of this place is absolutely gorgeous. Something I did enjoy from the start is that they offer valet parking. One of my close friends chose this bar to celebrate her birthday. I know you've certainly not gained my business or my family or friends. To the owner(s) of The Alcove, if you consider yourselves a neighborhood bar then maybe try to be welcoming to folks other than your "Cheers crew." I feel embarrassed for you all and how you run your business. is that too much to ask? I'm so disappointed because I wished that it was a good experience because this place has so much amazing potential!!! How does this place stay in business? Please, just be kind to people. After I ordered they took their time getting the drinks as I awkwardly stood there waiting. That's fine but I'm 33, not sure why the intense scrutiny. Then the bartender asked for my ID and she proceeded to scrutinize it and check the name also on my credit card. They acted inconvenienced and annoyed when I tried to order. Everyone knew each other's names which is awesome, but if they didn't know you, you might as well be invisible. It was unclear where to order and when I went inside to order, the atmosphere and folks at the bar were ICY COLD, VERY unwelcoming. We live in State Thomas and the wine bar is just down the street. Last night my husband and I went to have a glass of wine at The Alcove. I rarely ever leave reviews of establishments, but in this instance I feel that I absolutely must. I wouldn't tell someone not to go, but I would say to go on a weeknight and save yourself the hassle. I understand this place is busy and in high demand but I certainly felt it could have been better organized. ![]() When she did call names she did so rather quietly and gave someone about 30 seconds to respond before moving on. She told us it wasn't our turn and that she didn't know. The hostess made it very clear if you did not respond when your name was called you would be skipped. We came back 40 minutes later and asked if we could get an estimate on time because we wanted to make sure we got our spot. They told us an hour wait and we didn't want to just stand there so we walked around. They had a wait-list but the only way to make sure you got in was to wait out front until the hostess called your name. And while that's not the end of the world (I've waited for good places before) their management of it was not so great. That being said, we had to wait almost 2 hours to get in on a Saturday night. The drinks are inventive and tasteful and if you are here for Christmas the interior is beautiful. It's small but that's no issue for me because I was seated at a table. I'll start with the good because it really is a lovely place. ![]() ![]() ![]() As it nears the ground, the negatively charged stepped leader causes streamer channels of positive charge to reach upward, normally from taller objects in the area, such as a tree, house, or telephone pole. This stepped leader is invisible to the human eye, and shoots to the ground in less time than it takes to blink. In the most common type of cloud-to-ground lightning (CG), a channel of negative charge, called a stepped leader, will zigzag downward in roughly 50-yard segments in a forked pattern. If the plane is below the cloud, then a CG flash could result. Lightning can also be triggered by aircraft flying through strong electric fields. Upward triggered lightning usually occurs in response to a natural lightning flash, but on rare occasions can be “self-triggered”-usually in winter storms with strong winds. Additionally, subsequent rumble strip hits after the first hit do not effectively increase alertness. However, a more stable Pickering emulsion is formed when the contact angle is close to 90°, where the solid particles balance their dispersion in both phases. 4 A W/O-type emulsion forms if the three-phase contact angle is higher than 90° (usually hydrophobic). More specifically, in an O/W-type emulsion, the contact angle at the three-phase boundary ( i.e., between the disperse phase, solid particles and continuous phase) is less than 90° ( i.e., hydrophilic) (see Fig. Typically, the phase with the better wetting capacity on the solid particles becomes the continuous phase, while the other becomes the dispersed phase. The mechanism of the attachment of the solid particles at the oil–water interface mainly depends on their wettability, which determines the type of emulsion, either water-in-oil (W/O) or oil-in-water (O/W) systems. In Pickering emulsions, the solid particles are irreversibly adsorbed at the oil–water interface to form a steric barrier resulting in a more stable emulsion formulation. It is very important to understand the mechanism of Pickering emulsion formation when selecting a solid emulsifier. 2–4,9–11 The key advantages of using solid particles as emulsifiers are associated with their tunable properties (such as wettability, surface charge, porosity, responsiveness etc.), and the option to select the particles from sustainable sources with biodegradability and low toxicity. 1 Schematic representation of surfactant stabilised emulsion and solid nanoparticle stabilised Pickering emulsions.Ī significant variety of inorganic (such as silica, clay) and organic (polysaccharides and proteins) particles have been effectively utilised as Pickering emulsifiers providing long-term emulsion stability. 8 In a Pickering emulsion, solid particles are allowed to accumulate at the interface between two immiscible phases to reduce the possibility of coalescence by forming a physical barrier (see Fig. Introduction Pickering emulsions are becoming more widely used in many fields, including food, cosmetics, paints, coating, pharmaceutics, and drug delivery, 1–6 although they were first reported a century ago by Ramsden in 1903 (ref.
